Fairy Tale Object Ideas

I’ve been reading several fairy tales over the course of this project, and here are some that have significant objects within them…

  • Red Riding Hood – Red hood/cloak, basket of food. [I want to use quite small personal items, so this idea would not work.]

– “a little riding hood of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear anything else; so she was always called ‘Little Red Riding Hood.”

– “‘Come, Little Red Riding Hood, here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine; take them to your grandmother”

  • Snow White – Enchanted mirror, red apple. [I am going to take this idea forward]

–  “She had a wonderful looking-glass, and when she stood in front of it and looked at herself in it, and said —

‘Looking-glass, Looking-glass, on the wall,
Who in this land is the fairest of all?’

the looking-glass answered —

‘Thou, O Queen, art the fairest of all!’

Then she was satisfied, for she knew that the looking-glass spoke the truth.”

– “there she made a very poisonous apple. Outside it looked pretty, white with a red cheek, so that everyone who saw it longed for it; but whoever ate a piece of it must surely die.”

  • Jack & The Beanstalk – Axe, golden egg, beans [These objects would be reasonably easy to source]

– “After dinner, the ogre placed a hen on the table. The hen laid golden eggs.”

– “Hide the harp and bring me an axe! I must chop down the plant before the ogre gets here,”

  • Goldie Locks & The Three Bears – Blonde Hair, Bowl of porridge. [Again, these objects could be easily sourced]

-‘Goldilocks’ is a girl with golden-blonde hair.

-“At the table in the kitchen, there were three bowls of porridge.”

  • The Princess and The Pea–  Tiara, Pea, Mattress… [Finding a Tiara that looks like real gold & diamonds is proving difficult!]

– “In the middle of the storm somebody knocked at the town gate, and the old King himself sent to open it. It was a princess who stood outside”

– “She went into the bedroom, took all the bed clothes off and laid a pea on the bedstead”

  • Beauty & The Beast – Hand mirror, a rose [These objects would also be easy enough to find]

– “be so kind to bring me a rose, for as none grows hereabouts, they are a kind of rarity.”

– “Belle agreed to this and set off for home with an enchanted mirror”
