Curtis Mann: Bleaching Photographs

Curtis Mann manipulates photographs using bleach. He uses others images and makes them his own with this technique. He deconstructs the photographs by masking parts with varnish first and then applies the bleach. Mann typically uses photographs from areas of the world which are in conflict. The photos can depict war or violence, though in the past he has used his own family photographs as well.

What I personally like about Mann work is the simplicity of the creation. He appropriates imagery and alters it without using editing software. The photographs lose their original identity and become pieces of art.
