Phonar Project

My project stems from an exploration of self identity. I am fascinated by my heritage, not because it is particularly unusual, but because I am a sum of those parts. Researching my lineage gives me a sense of belonging, or rather, self identification. My Granddad Jozef Kuchta was born in Poland, and as a consequence of the second world war, he came to live in England. This is one quarter of my history – my identity – that is unknown to me. My Granddad died in 2004, I never met any of his family, I don’t know if he has any living relatives. He probably has. I aim to re-construct the semi-unknown histories of this quarter of my family.
