Brian Palmer -‘how many people with the surname of “Hobson” do you know…..?’

Brian Palmer shares an issue very similar to my own- he doesn’t know his ancestry. Here he discusses his methods in gathering information in order to tell the story.

“Portray the story you see, not the story people ask you to see.”

“Sitting in people’s living rooms, letting them tell me the story the way they need to tell it. Not just gathering quotes, or gathering the salient bits of information that will get me to the next person. I did some of that, but the idea is, the story has to develop organically and then you have to pare it down.”
