Niagara- Alec Soth

Alec Soth’s Niagara illustrates the area surrounding the infamous Niagara falls. Although a beauty spot, the Niagara falls attracts more than nature fanatics, it has become a hotspot for couples to elope to and carry out affairs in seedy motels.

Another great example of hidden beauty is found in this series, Soth has produced aesthetically beautiful photos of ugly love affairs: motel rooms; pawn shops; naked couples; break-up letters; and wedding parties. Soth often uses symmetry, repetition and low depth of field within his images which add the the aesthetics. The photos below demonstrate repetition and low depth of field.
